Work that works for people, not the other way around

The way we work is not a law of nature. It’s not like this because it has to be. It’s like this because we created it this way."

"An economy that works for people, not the other way around.”

One of Anthony Albanese’s promises to the Australian people in his victory speech* struck a chord with me.

"An economy that works for people, not the other way around.”

Things don’t have to be the way they always were.

They can change.

With the phrase swilling around in my mind, it didn’t take long before I substituted ‘economy’ for 'work'.

🟠“Work that works for people, not the other way round.”🟠

The way we work is not a law of nature. It’s not like this because it has to be. It’s like this because we created it this way.

Which means we can change it.

As Steven Pinker demonstrates in his book ‘Enlightenment Now’, we are safer, healthier and wealthier** than ever before. If ever there was a time to make work work for us, it’s now.

*This isn’t a political post, although, yes, I am pleased at the result of Australia’s 2022 federal election.
**There are exceptions (there shouldn’t be) and it doesn’t always feel like it, but it’s true overall in all areas....***
